Adventure Kitchen is thrilled to bring you this Turmeric from Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, India. This is an heirloom variety called Pragati, licensed by the Indian Institute of Spice Research. Their Turmeric is organically and sustainably farmed on a third-generation, family-owned farm. The farmers are paid up to 6 times the standard commodity price, to account for truly fair wages and their stewardship of sustainable agriculture in India.

This turmeric was harvested in 2021, and because it’s so fresh it’s likely the most potent and aromatic you’ll ever taste. Because it is a freshly milled heirloom variety, a little goes a long way! When cooking with this turmeric, taste as you go - in most recipes you may only need half as much as you would normally use.

Turmeric is believed to have potent healing properties, and is an essential ingredient in ancient Ayurvedic healing traditions. Curcumin is the substance in turmeric that is believed to have anti-inflammatory benefits, and our Pragati Turmeric has been double-tested at 4.7% curcumin. (And FYI, studies have shown that pairing turmeric with black pepper enhances the body’s ability to absorb curcumin.)

In addition to traditional south Asian and Indian recipes, you can use a pinch of our Heirloom Turmeric with veggies, chicken, fish or rice, or use a pinch in your morning smoothie or latte.
